We may be called European Golf Design (EGD), but we are a worldwide company. One of the continents you will find our name is Asia and here we focus on Dubai City in the United Arab Emirates.
Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club originally opened in 1993 and was the second golf course to be built in Dubai. In 2004 we were asked to re-design the course by using additional land in order to integrate a new 5-star hotel and a residential development. Following this major redevelopment of the existing course by EGD, in association with Thomas Bjorn, Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club is now the centre piece of one of the most recognized golf resorts in the world. Soon after our re-design in 2005, Dubai Creek was named in Golf World’s Top 100 Golf Courses in the World. Most recently the course has hosted the Dubai Invitational on the DP World Tour.
In 2014, EGD was tasked with creating an 18-hole championship golf course and golf academy that was part of a 2,700-acre prestigious lifestyle community set in the heart of Dubai. That course was Dubai Hills, which has gone on to be one of Dubai’s most iconic golf destinations. Only 15 minutes from Downtown Dubai, the course at Dubai Hills Golf Club was designed by EGD’s Gary Johnston and is managed by Troon Golf. After opening in 2018, Dubai Hills was named ’2019 – World’s Best New Golf Course’ at the prestigious World Golf Awards.
EGD and designer Gary Johnston have continued to be a prominent force in Dubai. Last year Gary completed the new Par 3 Course at the Montgomerie Golf Club, which is set in the heart of the prestigious Emirates Hill.
What is to come? This year will see the completion of Emaar South. Emaar South is a new 18-hole championship golf course set in one of the highly sought-after addresses in Dubai South. Emaar South Golf Course was designed by EGD’s Gary Johnston, with construction split into 3 phases, first two are built and final phase is due to get going before the end of the year.
EGD is the Golf Course Design Company of the European Tour Group and Ryder Cup Europe.
