The Brief
Royal Norwich set out to secure its long-term future by finding a new home that would let the club evolve and modernize. The goal was to establish a top-quality, vibrant members’ club that appeals to golfers of all ages while providing a warm, welcoming atmosphere for families and guests.
The Site
The opportunity to relocate came in early 2014 with the purchase of Weston Park, a stunning piece of mature parkland just 15 minutes from the club’s original location in Hellesdon, on the outskirts of Norwich. At the same time, a deal was finalized with Persimmon Homes for the sale of the existing course, making the transition possible.
The Course
We conducted a full site appraisal, covering feasibility and cost analysis, before diving into the detailed design work for planning and construction. The new development includes an impressive 18-hole, 7,200-yard, par-73 course, alongside a 6-hole short course, a practice range, and a specialized short game training area. It’s a layout designed to challenge and delight golfers while offering excellent facilities for practice and skill development.
Status
Construction kicked off in May 2017 and wrapped up on schedule in August 2018. The new course officially opened to golfers in September 2019.
