The Brief
We teamed up with Angel Gallardo and Neil Coles to design a Championship golf course capable of hosting European Tour events. The goal was to create a world-class course that could challenge top players while showcasing the natural beauty of the area.
The Course
Set in the stunning landscape of North East Spain, between Barcelona and Gerona in the town of Caldas, the course was carved out of rugged terrain, transforming steep ravines into beautiful, playable golf holes. The fairways wind generously through stands of pines, Spanish oaks, and olive trees, with elevated tees offering sweeping views. Impressive bunkering and firm greens add strategic depth, while several large lakes are seamlessly integrated into the design, coming into play on key holes.
Status
The course opened in June 1999 and quickly made its mark by hosting the 1999 Sarazen World Open just months later. It also hosted The Spanish Open in 2000 and 2009. Recognized for its excellence, the course earned several prestigious accolades, including being named the Best New Course in Europe by Golf World in 1999, making Golf World‘s Top 100 Golf Courses in the World list in 2011, and ranking in the Top 10 of the Top 100 European Courses in 2009. It is proudly part of the European Tour Courses family.
